ABOUT TETBURY

Something which all of us are prone to do, at one time or another, is take for granted what we have in life.  This aspect of being human is particularly true of where we live in the world.

The truth is, those of us who live in and around Tetbury are fortunate to live in a beautiful place, positioned as it is in a very special region of England called the Cotswolds.
The countryside around is lush and perfect for enjoying the outdoors.

Our small - but perfectly formed - town is smart, historic and a great place for a stroll around, shopping or socialising.
And - looking below the surface - we have some wonderful activities, events, social and sports groups that offer so much to enjoy.

In addition to all the above, we are well resourced, with purveyors of fine foods and wines.  We're also well looked after by skilled craftsmen, imaginative artists and experienced tradespeople of all types.

What a truly special place we live in!  We count our blessings and appreciate what we have to enjoy.

We're delighted to share what we have with others!  Why not come and enjoy Tetbury - and the surrounding area - for yourself.

Just don't tell too many people how great Tetbury is!

POTTED HISTORY - DRAFT
Tetbury, a town in the Cotswold district in the English country of Gloucestershire, sits
on the site of an ancient hill fort where an Anglo-Saxon monastery was later founded in the year 681.

During the Middle Ages, Tetbury was an important market for wool and yarn.  A lot of the town centre's buildings date from the 16th and 17th centuries.  One of the best known is the Market House, from 1655 ,with restoration work done in 1817.

The Market House- a pillared building where wool and yarn were traded as Tetbury's main business activity - is today, a home for events and meetings, with the town's market being held underneath the pillars.

Other attractions in the town include:
Tetbury Police Museum and Courtroom

Chavenage House

Highgrove House

Tetbury is home to two unique events.  One is the Woolsack Races, which began in 1972, in which people run up and down the steep Gumstool Hill.  While a short trot, the challenge is - they have to carry 60 pound [27 kg] sacks of wool on their backs.

The other unique event is Wacky Races, Tetbury's version of a go-kart race.  Both events - which attract thousands of spectators - have traditionally taken place annually, on different Bank Holidays in May.
